What is finish carpentry?
Finish carpentry is the woodwork you see when a room is done: baseboards, door and window casings, crown molding, wainscoting, built-ins, shelving, cabinets and interior doors. It goes in after the walls and floors, so every joint shows. We cut it tight, fix it firm and leave it filled and ready for paint.
What is the difference between trim carpentry and millwork?
Trim is the molding a carpenter cuts and fits on site: baseboards, casings, crown. Millwork is woodwork made in a shop: cabinets, casework, paneling, built-ins, reception desks and counters. We install both, and we fit shop-made millwork to real walls that are never perfectly straight.
Do you install millwork and cabinets made by someone else?
Yes. Most of our work is installing millwork, cabinets and casework made by a shop or supplied by the owner or general contractor. We work from the shop drawings and elevations, check the delivery, and install, level, scribe and adjust every piece.
Do you work for general contractors on multifamily buildings?
Yes. We install kitchen cabinets, casework and finish carpentry unit by unit for general contractors and developers. We read the bid package, send our questions early, and we can install only or supply and install. Fully insured, with a certificate of insurance on request.
How is finish carpentry priced?
From your drawings or photos: the linear feet of trim, the number of doors and openings, the cabinets in each kitchen. You get a free written estimate with every line shown before any work starts.
Can you match the trim in an older apartment?
Yes. In pre-war apartments and brownstones we match existing profiles as closely as the available molding allows, and we tell you before we start if a profile has to be made to order.
What happens if the finished work gets damaged by another trade?
We inspect every finished kitchen and piece of millwork before sign-off and fix scratches, dents and scuffs on site. If another crew damages it later, our finish repair specialist can repair it with exact color matching and French polishing.
